FCS Lab

In our Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS) lab, you can find a state-of-the-art time-correlated single-photon counting system, based on a Nikon confocal microscope. This allows for precise measurements of diffusion coefficients of fluorescent probes, at precisely controlled temperature and atmosphere composition.
With two independent detection channels, we can perform both auto- and cross-correlation experiments. Application of pulsed laser allows for fluorescence lifetime measurements, which can be merged with FCS (to obtain fluorescence lifetime correlation spectroscopy data). Using climate chambers (both commercial and custom-made), we can precisely control the temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide fraction in the sample environment.
Recently, we started to introduce methods of diffusion coefficient assessment based on confocal images, which allow to average over large sampling space and extend the available measurement range towards extremely slow motion.
