We are interested in complex fluids - fluids that posses structure at
different length scales, and whose structure define the properties of
the fluids at those length scales.
One area of particular interest for us is microfluidics and the use of
microfluidics for precisely tailored preparation of drops, bubbles,
particles and capsules. We also work on the problem of transport of
droplets through mazes of microfluidic channels - we want to design
and make automated microlaboratories that will opperate simultaneously
on arrays of droplets of distinct and predefined chemical content.
We are also interested in the processes of self-organization in
polymers, liquid crystals and colloidal fluids, especially when the
systems are driven away from equilibrium by the action of oscillating
electric or magnetic fields. We investigate crystallization and
dynamic self-organization of proteins and colloids, and the dynamics
of supramolecular structures (cytoskeleton) in bacteria.
